 
Tombs Prison

The life of Horace Wells, pioneer of  nitrous oxide anaesthesia, ended tragically in Tombs Prison, New York. Wells was committed to the notorious jail after throwing sulphric acid over the clothes of two prostitutes. He was out of his mind on chloroform.
